Youth Program Leader

The mission of Latinitas is to empower all girls to innovate with media and technology with the vision of creating courageous leaders. Since 2002, Latinitas has offered year-round programming in Austin, Texas - the location of our headquarters - and has served over 30,000 girls. We are looking for a Program Leader who is enthusiastic, efficient, self-motivated and creative to join the Latinitas team.
The Program Leader will demonstrate strong leadership skills and will be able to maintain and effectively facilitate and execute program deliverables. Program leaders administer lessons in writing, media literacy, photography, filmmaking, blogging and other more techy projects such as video game design, app creation, virtual reality and more. Our after school, weekend and seasonal programs connect girls with positive role models and encourage girls to express themselves in a safe and supportive environment. This position is not only meant for those interested in working directly with girls in the community but also act as organization ambassadors.
Program Leader Responsibilities
  • Due to COVID-19 public health & safety protocols, Club Latinitas leaders may have to plan to manage clubs & engage with students virtually. (Dependent on Austin Independent School District policies).
  • Manage your assigned Club Latinitas after-school program sites on a weekly basis from September - May at primarily elementary and middle schools in South, East, and North Austin.

  • Club Latinitas management includes the following:
  • Lead recruitment of club attendees for assigned campuses
  • Communicate with school site coordinators on program updates
  • Report monthly attendance, recruitment and activity content and data
  • Abides by all Club Latinitas rules and regulations, enforces them among groups and applies appropriate behavior management techniques
  • Manage seasonal programs and apply all Club Latinitas management tasks:
  • Weekend workshops at Latinitas office, library and public housing spaces in the fall and spring
  • One day “Chica” conferences at local media and technology spaces in the fall and spring
  • Week-long media and tech enrichment summer camps in the summer - June through August
  • Administer Latinitas Curriculum in digital media, technology, and cultural literacy education with potential to create new activities relevant to the mission.
  • Organize trips and guest speaker visits, as needed
  • Report to staff orientations, trainings, and team meetings
  • Manage marketing / PR / communication needs across programs
  • Sending content for monthly e-newsletter
  • Promoting programs on local television & radio spots
  • Promoting programs on social media
  • Creating strategies to promote programs
  • Follows safety regulations and emergency procedures, responds to critical incidents, performs routine first aid tasks, and ensures the well-being of program attendees
  • Create video lessons for online clubs
  • Distribute to parents and students via email and text messages
  • Send to graphic design intern the schedule of activities so that they may create graphics for social media
  • Create a plan to keep girls engaged throughout virtual clubs
  • Upload submissions of students to the Channel Latinitas
  • Create a schedule to host online video calls with students
Program Leader Qualifications
  • Understanding of and enthusiastic about the Latinitas mission, vision and programs
  • Must have excellent oral and written communications skills and standard knowledge of professional etiquette in email, phone and in-person collaboration.
  • Organized, resourceful and creative
  • Must have some experience working with youth/children in a classroom, camp, workshop or community space.
  • Experience working in the nonprofit sector strongly recommended but not required.
  • Bilingual capabilities are strongly recommended but not required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Able to navigate individual responsibilities and be proactive and curious in their role.
  • Able to lead and work with a team to prioritize and manage tasks, resources and partnerships.
  • Able to adapt to program changes and challenges as they are planned and executed.
  • Displays an interest / passion for:
  • Digital media and technology enrichment
  • Bridging diversity and gender gaps in media and technology industries
  • Creating a pipeline for girls to be courageous leaders
  • Community engagement
  • Social justice and advocacy
  • Assist with managing partnerships across a variety of sectors including:

  • Media/film organizations and companies
  • Youth, girl and Latinx empowerment groups
  • School district and after school program ecosystem
  • Cultural arts and community engagement networks
Program Leader Schedule
  • Must have at least 3 weekday afternoons available between 2 pm - 6 pm for Club Latinitas program (September - May)
  • Must have at least 2 days available between 9 am - 2 pm for staff and program team meetings in office (Year round)
  • Must have flexible availability for summer programs (June - July)
  • Must have flexible availability for weekend programs (Select Saturdays in the fall & spring)
This position is recommended for college level students and graduates with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s level degree in:
