Telecommuting
This job allows part time telecommuting/remote work, but will be required to be onsite for training and periodically for meetings. Must be able to travel to Evansville, IN.
Job Overview
Abstracts oncology patient charts for the Cancer Registry and inputs data into the computerized software system. Ensures accurate and timely reporting of cancer cases to the State of Indiana, as required by law. Maintains records of the Cancer Registry following the guidelines of the American College of Surgeons. Evaluates and reports the method of diagnosis and resulting survival time related to various types of cancer in accordance with the American College of Surgeons guidelines and under direction of the Oncology Committee. Prepares periodic and annual reports for the Oncology Committee and American College of Surgeons; specifically the Annual Cancer Report. Coordinates activities of the Tumor Conference with all related physicians and departments; serves as secretary for the Tumor Conference. Conducts information system upgrades and improvements in coordination with vendor and the Information Services department. Participates in national, state and local cancer registrar continuing education opportunities. Compiles and submits requested data to the National Cancer Data Bank.
Education and Experience
Associate Degree in related field. One year experience with medical terminology, college level anatomy and physiology required.
Licensure / Certifications Certified Tumor Registrar. LPN, RN, RRA, ART preferred. Certification by National Cancer Registrars Association required immediately following eligibility. Experience: Minimum of one year experience in health care setting, Cancer Registry experience preferred
