Benson Rare Books Student Associate (open to work study and non work study)

Position Title: Benson Rare Books Student Associate

Department: Benson Latin American Collection, Rare Books Unit, UT Libraries

Supervisor: Brooke Womack
In partnership with the Teresa Lozano Long Institute for Latin American Studies (LLILAS), the Benson Latin American Collection is a global destination for research and study, with over a million volumes as well as a wealth of original manuscripts, photographs and various media related to Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean and Latina/Latino presence in the United States.

The Benson is comprised of circulating and rare/archival library stacks. This position will be located in the rare/archival stacks and will involve the handling and care of rare materials.

Position is subject to renewal each semester.

Work Schedule: The working hours for this position are Monday-Friday between 9am and 5pm.

Duties: The duties for this position include pulling, handling, and scanning rare materials; various stacks projects such as labeling and shifting rare books; and helping the rare stacks manager in stacks duties.

Required Qualifications: Currently-enrolled student at UT Austin. Ability to climb stairs, as the rare books stacks are only accessible by narrow staircases. Ability to lift/move up to 15 lbs. Punctuality and ability to follow multistep processes.

Preferred Qualifications: Spanish and/or Portuguese language skills and attention to details are preferred.

Working Conditions: Regular indoor working conditions.

Rate of Pay: $8.05/hour
