Tutorial Services Graduate Assistant
Hours/Pay: 10-20 hours per week, $17/hour (At 20 hours, this position is eligible for health benefits. A nine-month commitment is preferred.)

Tutorial Services at the Sanger Learning Center offers both one-to-one appointment tutoring (AT) and drop-in tutoring (DIT) to all UT undergraduates and employs nearly 200 student educators. The Tutorial Services Graduate Assistant supports the Appointment Tutoring and Drop-in Tutoring programs and, as time allows, serves as an academic coach in the Sanger Learning Center within the School of Undergraduate Studies.
 
Responsibilities:
This position will support the AT and DIT programs in coordinating Tutorial Services. This includes:
·      Managing and supervising a team of paid peer educators (tutors and Undergraduate Assistants). Some evening availability during drop-in tutoring hours is ideal.
·      Answering email inquiries from students to the tutoring listserv.
·      Assisting with new tutor training, orientation, and hiring.
·      Maintaining regular communication with ACTS Program Administrator and completing administrative tasks as needed.
·      Providing additional support for the Academic Counseling and Tutorial Services team at the Sanger Learning Center as needed.
·      As time allows, providing individual consultation and guidance to UT undergraduate students seeking to improve their knowledge and skills related to academic success.

  • Have demonstrated commitment to student well-being and student academic success.
  • Have an understanding of challenges faced by UT (or similar university) undergraduate students.
  • Be willing to engage with Sanger colleagues.
 
Preference given to applicants with: knowledge of learning theories and learning/study strategies related to college success; experience applying or communicating learning theories/strategies with adolescent or college students; experience working with diverse populations; experience as an undergraduate peer educator; experience with technology platforms such as Microsoft Office and Zoom.
