Epidemiologic Research Assistant

Position Description: The Enteric Disease Epidemiology Branch (EDEB) at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is seeking a bachelor-level candidate to serve as an Epidemiologic Research Assistant (ERA) on the Foodborne Diseases Active Surveillance Network (FoodNet) team.
The ERA will support programmatic activities including:
·        Track team and branch projects, analyses, active and published manuscripts, and scientific conferences
·        Coordinate materials and plan logistics for an annual meeting and other scientific meetings as needed
·        Organize conference calls, room reservations, prepare meeting agendas, and take minutes for working group calls
·        Join program planning calls as requested by Team Lead, and report back relevant highlights
·        Communicate with state and federal partners
·        Manage shared email inboxes, respond to data requests and other requests for information
·        Provide input on communications and website materials
·        Track institutional review board (IRB) study renewal dates and approval letters and as assist with Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approvals for projects
·        Manage Sharepoint site (e.g. site design, administration, maintenance, manage user permissions, alerts, team calendars, and project updates)
·        Assist with data entry and/or analysis for projects (correlated with level of training)
This position is for an ORISE Fellowship at CDC. Training opportunities will be available to the hired candidate and trainings have previously included such topics as SAS regression modeling, REDCap database management, and seminars on specific pathogens. In addition to learning opportunities, the candidate will be exposed to a range of scientific and public health topics, the operations of CDC surveillance activities, discussions with CDC subject matter experts, and will participate in team decisions.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field (e.g. public health, biology) with STEM coursework. As this is an entry-level position, applicants must have completed their Bachelor’s degree recently, within 5 years of graduation (applicants with advanced degrees {e.g. MS, MPH, PhD} will not be considered for this position). The candidate should have relevant public health experience, the ability to monitor health program activities, demonstrate good communications, and be enthusiastic to learn new skills. The demonstration of other project management and software skills is welcomed.

Organizational Description: The Enteric Diseases Epidemiology Branch (EDEB) is in the Division of Foodborne, Waterborne, and Environmental Diseases. The Branch primarily focuses on bacterial pathogens causing human disease (e.g. Campylobacter, Salmonella, Shigella, Vibrio, etc.). The branch leads CDC’s epidemiology work in preventing illness caused by these bacterial enteric (intestinal) pathogens, through national surveillance systems that monitor trends in illness and antimicrobial resistance, outbreaks, and identifying risk factors for these infections.
