Mount Sinai’s Arnhold Institute for Global Health (AIGH) is an academic institute that develops global health solutions and generates evidence that these solutions can be replicated at scale. The Department of Global Health and Health System Design at Mount Sinai conducts rigorous research on global health solutions, with a focus on how to build and sustain better health care systems in collaboration with the AIGH global partners. Our faculty investigators are clinician-scientists and multidisciplinary researchers whose portfolios include research such as strategies to enable community health networks in Nepal to keep newborns alive, investigating models of care to support lifelong HIV treatment programs for children and adolescents in Kenya, managing multiple chronic conditions for adults in rural Ghana, and evaluating the best strategies for long-term follow-up of COVID-19 survivors in Queens, New York. The department seeks to develop robust, well-funded, collaborative research teams who generate global health evidence as part of a department that embodies and advances diversity, equity, and inclusion.
 
The Grants and Finance Coordinator for the Department of Global Health and Health Systems Design (Department) and the Arnhold Institute of Global Health (Institute) is an entry-level position intended to provide support to the grants and financial administration of the department. Reporting to the Associate Director of Finance and Human Resources, the Grants and Finance Coordinator work closely with the Grants Manager, to manage Department and Institute funds, including the pre and post-award management of extramural funds.
 
The primary responsibilities will include assisting with the grants pre and post-award management process, emphasizing financial reconciliation, budget planning, and projections across departmental accounts following the departmental and institutional processes.
·        Assist with Federal, sponsor, and institutional compliance regulations such as attestations, effort certifications, salary allocations, and cost transfer requirements.
·        Runs financial reports as assigned from the grants financial reporting system, assists Principal Investigators with effort certification and the approval of retroactive personnel transfers.
·        Input of grant salary distributions, cost transfers, and departmental deficit accounts.
·        Assists with monthly and annual budgets, including projections and reconciliation of research finances.
·        Prepares new grant accounts and budgets and informing chart string to Grants Manager and Principal Investigators.
·        Prepares and submits accurate invoice, expenditure payments, requisitions, purchase orders, expenditure corrections, and journal entries.
·        Processes check requests, petty cash vouchers, travel requests and vouchers.
·        Communicates with finance staff to obtain variance explanations to alert them to wire transfers and ensure revenue and expenses are correctly captured.
·        Assists with grants close-out procedures, including research funding, are allocated, ensuring no grant overrun and spent by all applicable guidelines.
·        Assists with maintaining dashboards and other data documents using multiple platforms and other databases; assists with quarterly and annual progress reports; works as liaison with Office of Sponsored Programs (SPA).
·        Performs additional duties as needed.
 
Requirements:
·        A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from an accredited institution, and no fewer than two years (2) of related experience; OR Associate’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution, and no fewer than three years (3) of related experience; OR Possession of the core competencies determined to be required at the time of hire.
·        Ability to work both under supervision, in a team environment, and independently.
·        Ability to prioritize work and adjust to multiple demands within set deadlines.
·        Ability to maintain and respect sensitive, private and confidential information related.
·        Mathematical literacy and understanding of basic accounting concepts.
·        Professional written and verbal communication skills (in person, via e-mail, and on telephone), and ability to compose effective, thoughtful correspondence.
·        Organizational skills, high level of accuracy, and attention to detail.
·        Fully engaged and committed to the job. Assumes responsibility for tasks and/or projects without being asked. Seeks to resolve problems and suggests opportunities for improvement. Looks for additional ways to make a contribution/help a colleague.
