The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.
 
Reporting to the Senior Director of Film Programs, the Print Traffic Manager will be an integral component to the museum. They will handle the shipping and receiving of all titles to be screened in the Academy Museum’s theaters. The Print Traffic Manager will also be responsible for inspection and repair of titles prior to their respective screenings. The position is seeking an energetic, responsible, and organized candidate with knowledge and preferred experience working in movie theaters or cinema non-profits.
 
You Will:

  • Manage pickups and deliveries for all films screened in Academy theaters by the Film Programs department.
  • Arrange for the shipping and receiving of films using domestic and international carriers.
  • Identify and track incoming and outgoing film, video and digital media materials.
  • Inspect 16mm, 35mm, and 70mm film prints loaned for screenings.
  • Oversee the handling and shipping of nitrocellulose film stock.
  • Assist with archival loans and communicate with outside venues and users.
  • Prioritize and manage a complex, deadline-driven work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with Academy staff, donors, laboratory personnel and visitors.
  • Properly load and drive a standard cargo van.
  • Work with colleagues in the Academy film Archive to coordinate film traffic activities.
 
You Have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in film studies or equivalent preferred.
  • 3+ years’ experience in the operation of film handling, editing and viewing equipment.
  • Must have a California Driver License and be a minimum of 25 years or older.
  • Basic knowledge of film history and technology.
  • Familiarity with film and video formats and digital moving image media.
  • Skill in reading and composing correspondence and reports.
  • Experience using MS Office programs and database software.
