Technical Evaluator

An opening for a Technical Evaluator is available with the Applied Research and Evaluation Branch (AREB), in the Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (DHDSP), within the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

DHDSP has a mission to provide public health leadership to improve cardiovascular health for all, reduce the burden and eliminate disparities associated with heart disease and stroke. AREB conducts applied research and evaluation and translates scientific research for use by public health practitioners, and is seeking services to support program evaluation, sodium reduction initiatives and public health activities.

Include the following:

·      Identify the science base that underlies DHDSP strategies by conducting evidence reviews.

·      Provide technical advice and assistance to national, state, local and tribal health agencies and to various other organizations around evaluation capacity and programmatic improvement.

·      Support data analysis work and develop specific programmatic improvement recommendations for programs and organizations.

·      Plan and act as meeting facilitator for CDC planning sessions, partner meetings, CDC leadership meetings, and leadership briefings.

·      Identify best and promising practices through partner interviews, data collection, and literature reviews.

·      Develop dissemination products such as one-page overviews, 2-3 page reports or 8-10 page guidance documents, and disseminate findings to partners.

·      Support components of high visibility projects that support the work of AREB and/or DHDSP initiatives. This may include, but is not limited to, developing presentations and/or coordinating speakers for key DHDSP meetings, developing website text that describes DHDSP initiatives and writing success stories, etc.

·      Analyze qualitative and quantitative data and synthesize results.

·      Provide evaluation technical assistance to CDC partners.

·      Develop guides, manuals or technical reports for partners and public health practitioners that translate the known science to facilitate the adoption of identified strategies.

·      Present project updates or summaries at CDC briefings, or presentations to CDC staff.

                           

No supervisory or management authority.

·      An advanced degree in a field related to health/allied sciences, i.e., MPH is required

·      2+ yrs. of documented experience in public health, health sciences research, and/or program evaluation and performance measurement

·      Desired experience working with the CDC, federal or related public health entities

·      Desired specific work or training experience related to heart disease and stroke prevention, or management of chronic conditions is preferred

·      Skill in administering survey, conducting focus groups, and meeting facilitation

·      Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

·      Ability to performance quantitative and qualitative data analysis

·      Excellent written and verbal communication

Work will be performed in a climate-controlled office.
