Media Support Technician- William C. Powers, Jr. Student Activity Center (Open to Work Study and Non-Work Study)

*Work Study and regular part-time undergraduate student employment available*

The Media Support Technicians are part of the WCP A/V department. They work closely with event sponsors in coordinating their audio/visual needs for their event and serve as one of the on-site contacts for the department during events. Technicians set up, operate, and troubleshoot multimedia equipment such as projectors, microphones, theatrical lighting, and speaker systems in a variety of meeting and specialty rooms. They also assist in maintenance of equipment and inventory and play an integral role in media content development to support the promotion of the organization.  

Start Date: Summer 2021

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Set-up and/or operate multimedia audio/visual equipment for use in education, live performances, and recorded events.
  • Provide support to end users of AV/media systems including troubleshooting and maintenance in a timely, courteous manner.
  • Run the lighting system for the Black Box Theater and Auditorium.
  • Assist with AV/media production and installations on occasion.
  • Maintain equipment security and accurate, current inventory records.
  • Follow the guideline to maintain the facility’s LEED Gold Certification.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Entry- or intermediate-level audio visual set-up and maintenance experience with a desire to continually develop tech skills.
  • Knowledge of performance facility lighting structure.
  • Ability to run complex lighting, concert audio equipment and speaker systems.
  • Ability to work effectively with people and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Have flexibility, be a quick learner, and maintain healthy relationships with other employees.
  • Availability to work alternate weekends.

In addition to the requirements for the position, you must meet the following requirements to be considered for all positions in the University Unions:

Be a current student at The University of Texas at Austin or other college/university and be registered for at least six (6) credit hours.
