Senior HVAC Mechanic


The Senior HVAC Mechanic is a non-exempt, senior craft position that reports to the Facilities Management team. The Senior HVAC Mechanic performs maintenance and service repairs on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. Installs new units or replacement parts for existing units according to specifications and established safety guidelines.
Essential Functions
• Install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, refrigeration, and dehumidification systems in a manufacturing environment, in addition to cooling units. Diagnose and repair of electronic, mechanical, and electrical components of these systems.
• Repairs heating and air conditioning systems and/or components (e.g. pumps, motors, air handlers, fan coils, piping, etc.) for ensuring a comfortable work environment/process.
• Requests equipment and supplies to maintain inventory and ensure availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair.
• Inspects HVAC systems and their components (e.g. heating units, building exhaust fans, ventilation units, etc.) for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive maintenance.
• Follows schedule of preventive maintenance and makes recommendations regarding major overhaul of systems.
• Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all CSI staff, co-workers, machinist, mechanical engineers and other professionals when needed, work independently with limited direct supervision.
• Adjust to new industry techniques and become familiar with new equipment as required.
• May be required to participate in the snow removal process. Respond to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
• May be required to work such additional hours to fully perform the job in accordance with the needs of the business.
• Maintains a working cell phone to ensure consistent communication during regular working hours, unless the company provides a device.

Accountabilities
• Design, maintain and troubleshoot HVAC and Refrigeration Equipment.
• Support the daily maintenance and continued operation of existing freeze-drying systems/Lyophilizes.
• Possess an advanced understanding of building and equipment schematics and diagrams.
• Able to function under pressure from the demand of maintaining and repairing equipment in a timely manner.
• Interact with Lab, Manufacturing and Charm personnel when troubleshooting equipment.
• Exchange information by communicating in a professional manner with vendors, manufactures and other skilled professionals to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by using the appropriate reference manuals, schematics, professional publications, and internet sourcing.
• Manages a variety of tools, equipment, and supplies for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at any and all Charm Facilities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Required:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Formal training and/or apprenticeship from and accredited school or program.
• Four - seven (4-7) years of journey-level experience in the installation, repair and maintenance with strong mechanical and electrical skills for commercial HVAC, Refrigeration and other environmental systems including but not limited to Lyophilizes.
• Massachusetts Refrigeration License and EPA Certification to handle refrigerants.
• Must have a working knowledge of commercial electrical and plumbing systems.
• Must have valid driver’s license.
• Lives within 30 miles of location due to rotational on-call assignments.

Preferred:
• Experience with HVAC heating and cooling load calculation and energy analysis.
• Knowledge of OSHA Safety Rules.
• GMP/GLP Experience.
• Skilled in Microsoft Office.

Physical Requirements
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Be able to push, pull, carry or maneuver heavier items with additional manpower or appropriate devices.
• Able to traverse about the facility, carry and climb ladders, work from heights, crawl under equipment and have dexterity to work with trade tools.
• Able to function in extreme hot and cold weather and non-weather conditions, such as freezers and outside work-related issues.
• Able to detect odoriferous smells in the event of gaseous leak.
