Position Hours and Location

We are actively hiring for this position for Summer 2021. You will be expected to work 15-25 hours per week at our downtown Knoxville, Tennessee headquarters located at 200 Jennings Avenue. Our office hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.


Your Opportunities

You'll have many opportunities to develop and grow your career skills and applied experience. In addition to working closely with our Director of Public Sector Sales on impactful projects and having a strong influence on their development and execution, you'll also spend time shadowing team members in other departments. You'll get face-to-face time with the company president and other executives while building relationships and your professional network with leaders throughout the company. You'll have the opportunity to observe meetings with various stakeholders. Your roles and responsibilities will provide skill development and you'll get periodic informal and formal reviews and feedback from your supervisor. You'll also have input on what you want to accomplish during your internship.


Future Employment

Our intent is to find an exceptional intern-to-hire with our intern program. We see this internship as an opportunity to learn about sales and business development and train with real-world applications as well as get in the door at a fast-growing tech company with a talented and young workforce. Depending on a number of factors, we may choose to offer a position to the intern in this role. While this role would ideally result in an intern-to-hire position, employment at the end of the internship is not guaranteed and may not occur for a number of reasons that do not include intern performance.



Compensation

You may earn academic credit in addition to learning through on-the-job training. While enrolling in academic credit is not required to complete this internship, we are willing to work with students who are seeking academic credit for the experience. Additional compensation opportunities may be discussed with you during the interview process.

What You’ll Do

Your role will likely include the following activities, though there will be new needs and activities that develop during your time here that you’ll be involved with as well:
  • Always uphold and adhere to RCN’s Core Culture Values
  • Initiate calls to new prospects and partners in an assigned territory.
  • Complete calls to follow-up on existing technology contracts & purchases
  • Complete outgoing calls to leads provided by wireless and OEM partners
  • Complete cold calls to prospects
  • Networking with local/regional centers and people of influence
  • Manage personal activity plan, develop and present proposals, and assist with opportunities
  • Interact with prospects and customers online and on phone
  • Explain the company’s value proposition
  • Distribute marketing materials to prospects as needed
  • Schedule qualified new account appointments
  • Know our services and products inside and out; be able articulate the benefits
  • Become a business advisor able to explain the concepts of Compliance, Collaboration, Productivity, and IT Management
  • Become a business advisor in Wireless Data Solutions
  • Identify and suggest possible improvements on procedures
  • Must be well spoken, outgoing, organized, detailed-orientated, dependable and flexible
  • May perform other duties outside of job description when needed

Education & Experience


  • Pursuing a Bachelors degree in Sales, Marketing, Business Administration, or relevant field preferred
  • Students must have at least Junior standing to apply
  • Proven track record as a strong, effective communicator
  • Knowledge of Wireless Technology, Networks, and Telecommunications preferred
  • Bonus for those with formal sales training experience

  • Knowledge of and experience with managing customer expectations
  • Technical aptitude and knowledge along with the ability to translate the complexities of technology to a lay person’s language is important

About Knoxville, Tennessee

Knoxville, Tennessee is an incredible city on the Tennessee River and at the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. We have the culture and many of the perks of southern larger cities without most of the drawbacks of large metro areas.
