Metro Reporter - Asbury Park (NJ) Press

Join our national award-winning team at the Asbury Park (NJ) Press and APP.com that exposes wrongdoing, gets problems fixed and makes life miserable for evil-doers. You'll work in a newsroom that is less than an hour from New York City covering some of the best stories in the region. You'll have opportunities to do deep-dive investigations from your metro and topical beats and be part of the USA TODAY NETWORK that stretches across the country. In recent years, our work has been honored with a host of national, regional and state awards, and made changes in policies and laws. We are looking for a fearless reporter who can land the tough interviews, dig into data and public records, and write with clarity and authority.

Responsibilities:

•       Develop, research and write compelling stories from your beats that will keep our subscribers coming back for more
•       Grow your network through social media and engage with readers
•       Use data, records and source development to provide deep and thoughtful analysis of complex issues
•       Work collaboratively with coaches and staffers across the USA TODAY Network
Be comfortable shooting and editing iPhone videos and photos, and going on live broadcasts
•       Juggle daily and enterprise-level stories
 Requirements:

•       Bachelor’s degree
•       Writing and reporting experience; video and other digital-focused skills
•       Proven ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
•       Ability to meet deadlines, be self-directed, take initiative, receive constructive feedback and work as part of a team
•       This role requires a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law
•       Live within driving distance of our coverage area at the Jersey Shore (Monmouth and Ocean counties)
•       Second-language skills, such as Spanish, Hebrew, Portuguese, Mandarin, Cantonese, French/Creole, welcomed!
