Production Manager – Building Materials
A very established and growing Central-Texas based manufacturing/building materials company seeks a highly motivated production manager for a full-time position, reporting directly to President of the company. Military personnel are highly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities include:
- Management of the day-to-day inventory control of Building Material Products for the fence industry and fulfillment of orders for Viking Fence Co Ltd. (parent company) and other customers in a timely manner and to company standards.
- Management and direction of Building Material employees (full-time and seasonal), and all related personnel issues including hiring, motivating and termination.
- Oversee custom cutting functions and overall safety and ensure we are complying with applicable safety standards.
- Assist in evaluating current and proposed systems and procedures. Recommend changes when necessary and assist in implementation of new processes/equipment.
- Work with management team, procurement/logistics and sales personnel to ensure timely distribution of finished goods.
- Manage inventory on a FIFO (first-in-first-out) basis. Organize production/inventory to reduce obsolescence and inventory write downs. Ensure that lumber yard is clean and organized.
- Ensure that mill equipment is properly maintained and serviced to avoid down time in production.
- Prepare and maintain production reports to mgmt. team as applicable. Analyze production results to ensure productivity targets are reached.
Requirements:
5 to 7 years of inventory control experience, and/or a bachelor degree in Industrial Technology/Industrial Management or equivalent experience
Must be able to communicate in English and Spanish.
Competent in use of Outlook, Excel and Word. Advanced experience would be preferred.
Candidate must have the following leadership skills:
- Must have the ability to lead a team of 8-10 employees
- Must have the ability to plan, organize, and control production tasks
- Must be persuasive and have the ability to make decisions and delegate tasks.
- Must possess excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to interact with workers from other cultures in a direct and positive manner.
- Must be adaptable and stress tolerant and be a critical thinker.
Applicant must have some experience working with milling equipment, forklifts and/or hydraulic machinery
Applicant must have solid knowledge of OSHA compliant workplace safety practices
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing practices is preferred. 5S inventory experience is a plus.
Experience in the lumber industry is preferred, but not required.
Must be a team player.

Salary: $55K to $65K per year, commensurate with experience, plus quarterly incentives related to inventory control goals.
