Career Peer Mentor (Open to Work-Study and Non-Work Study)

Job Posting Title: Career Peer Mentor (CPMs)
Job Type: Part-Time Employment
Department: Career Education, Texas Career Engagement
Position Open To: Applicants must be enrolled as a sophomore through junior level undergraduate student for the Fall 2021 semester. Juniors and seniors are encouraged to consider participation as a mentor in the BLASTS (Black and Latinx/e Advising Students to Students) Career Peer Mentor Program. Work-Study students are also encouraged to apply.
Earliest Start Date: August 16, 2021
Position Duration: 2021-2022 academic year (with possibility for continuation) 
Location: Hybrid/Remote work (Fully Remote until spring 2022)
Weekly Scheduled Hours: 3-5 hours per week
Pay: $10 per hour
 
CPM Job Responsibilities:
·      Texas Career Engagement, Career Education is looking to serve all UT students by providing peer to peer career education
·      All CPMs serve as ambassadors for Texas Career Engagement to UT students by sharing resources available through Texas Career Engagement and demonstrating value
 
Skills you’ll gain as a CPM:

o  Advise students on career topics through the lens of their own identity in one-on-one meetings

o  Collaborate with other CPMs to deliver presentations for Texas Career Engagement

o  Conduct effective internship/job searches

o  Facilitate group and one-on-one sessions with UT students
o  Plan and lead training sessions
o  Represent TCE at outside events and activities

o  Conduct presentations
o  Assist students both in groups and one-on-one
o  Connect and assist students through email
·      Global/Intercultural Fluency
o  Assist students of all backgrounds and experiences
o  Network with career professionals and recruiters
o  Opportunity to support identity specific peer mentor programming
·      Professionalism/Work Ethic
o  Provide customer service
o  Develop and hone time management skills
o  Create professional goals
·      Digital Technology
o  Gain knowledge of TCE resources and services
o  Monitor Career Peer Mentor email account and
o  Utilize HireUTexas in an administrative role
 
·      Support the Texas Career Engagement with virtual events and programming
·      Participate in weekly meetings with other CPMs and supervisor for on-going training, professional development, and planning purposes
·      Contribute to the development of the peer mentoring program by participating in meetings and providing feedback
 
BLASTS Program Focus Collateral:
·      Six CPMs will be chosen to serve their direct service hours with mentees in the BLASTS Career Peer Program consisting of:
o  Serving Black/African American and Latinx/e University of Texas Austin first- and second-year students
o  BLASTS mentors will each meet virtually with an assigned group of mentees weekly to guide them through career education curriculum in a community-building environment
o  BLASTS mentors will attend weekly with their supervisor to prepare for upcoming BLAST activities
 
Essential Required Program Dates:
·      Must be available for August 18 & 19 from 9am to 12pm
·     Attend weekly on-going trainings held on every Tuesdays from 4-6

Required qualifications
·      Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
·      Evening availability
·      Strong skills in relationship development and community building
·      Interest in career education topics (no prior experience necessary)
·      Interest in expanding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives
·      Rising sophomore or higher-class status at end of Spring 2021 semester
·      Demonstrated initiative and follow-through skills; punctuality and professional demeanor.
