Science Policy Summer Intern
DESCRIPTION
The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC), Delaware Coastal Programs (DCP) uses research and education to help lead public policy discussions and balance the use and protection of coastal and ocean resources. The DCP is currently seeking applications for a Science Policy Intern. The intern will assist with establishing a panel of experts to discuss implementation of various program improvements. The intern will gain valuable science policy experience, including policy research and stakeholder engagement as well as acquiring knowledge about regulatory programs within DNREC and other environmental organizations.

TERM OF SERVICE
- Summer – 12 weeks
- Full‐time ‐ 37.5 hours per week
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish a panel of experts to coordinate implementation of scientifically supported techniques for program improvements
- Create a report of potential program improvements from expert panel engagement
- Create a currency/equivalence to analyze project benefits according to type of benefit achieved (as time allows)
- Create a project list/bank (as time allows)
- Contribute to content development for social media engagement
- Other duties as assigned, based on intern interest areas and organizational needs
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Bachelor's or master's degree (or degree in progress) in environmental science, environmental studies, natural resource management, marine science, political science, or a related field
- Interest in scientific policy work
- Ability to represent the DCP professionally at meetings and events
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Strong research and data analysis skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Detail‐oriented, focused, and punctual
- Ability to work in a team or independently as needed
- Ability to work remotely/in a virtual setting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
