System Administrator - Information Technology

FORT BEND COUNTY

DEPARTMENT: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

JOB TITLE: SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR


JOB SUMMARY:
Deploys, maintains and administers complex server hardware, operating systems and application software. Is a key resource in implementing and integrating new technologies. Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops, configures and maintains servers with complex server hardware, network operating systems and application software to provide maximum utilization of current resources through effective and efficient direction in meeting user requirements for computerized solutions. Performs advanced diagnostics and troubleshoots and resolves network hardware components, system software and hardware; resolves advanced, complex system access and connectivity problems through the use of advanced system utilities and protocol analysis. Monitors system performance and capacity and tracks performance trends. Maintains integrity of staff accounts via managing server security features; key source in implementing and integrating new technologies. Develops and maintains current server operations and backup procedures. Troubleshoots and works with external vendors to resolve complex system issues. Provides second and third tier support to end user departments. Acquires, tests, and applies system software/hardware updates, releases and patches. Recommends and implements system policies and standards and ensures adherence to approved security and disaster recovery procedures. Installs third-party software products and tests products thoroughly. Installs patches/upgrades to third-party products when necessary and in conjunction with associated vendor application support status. Maintains printer profiles for corresponding network/application environment. Assists in the evaluation of vendor products in hardware, software, and networking equipment and recommends purchases consistent with the organizations short and long-term goals. On-call 24/7 for IT support issues. Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers. 

REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field. (High School/GED and four years of relevant professional experience in addition to 5 years required experience may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree). Five years of directly related experience. Thorough knowledge of network operating systems, systems integration and multiple network protocols such as TCP/IP. Advanced knowledge and troubleshooting skills of MS SQL Server. Ability to design, install, manage and monitor complex systems, operating system software and applications. Knowledge of system administration of multiple server environments. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees and elected officials. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. MCSE, MCNE, CNE, CNA certifications preferred.

SALARY RANGE: Professional/Management Grade 14, $2,900.80 - $3,412.00 biweekly based on qualifications
