Public Health Nurse/Generalist - Health & Human Services

DEPARTMENT: HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES

JOB TITLE: PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE/GENERALIST

GRANT FUNDED
 

JOB SUMMARY:
Promotes and provides public health services to the residents of Fort Bend County in the prevention and control of public health matters and communicable diseases. Participates in planning of programs, policies and objectives for work group and department.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Nurses will assist with the COVID-19 response by interviewing patients and their close contacts. The goal of the position is to assist in reducing the spread of disease in the community by identifying those who are at risk of developing COVID-19 and educate them and support them in maintaining good quarantine and isolation practices as indicated. Provides counseling, education and referral for COVID-19. Conducts disease surveillance, disease reporting and assists with epidemiological investigations/treatment. Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department. Supervises, assists and/or instructs other employees with their duties. Assist other staff members as needed. Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

REQUIREMENTS:
Associates degree in Nursing and State Certified Registered Nurse. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred. One-year experience in public or community health nursing. Good verbal and written communication, supervisory, and organizational skills, and the ability to deal effectively with the public, and other employees. Must provide own reliable transportation (and proof of insurance). First Aid/CPR certification and Defensive Driving must be completed within three months of hire date. May be required to work weekends and holidays. Bilingual – Read/Speak Spanish preferred. Grant Funded.

SALARY RANGE: Public Health Grade 11, $2,078.40 - $2,444.80 biweekly based on qualifications
