Accounting and Asset Management Internship

Learning new skill-sets?Acumen Companies, a multidisciplinary, opportunistic real estate development and investment company based in Washington D.C., is looking for an Accounting and Asset Management Intern to assist senior management in performing daily accounting duties for real estate and development projects

As an Accounting Associate, your primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Become proficient in Quickbooks and Procore software (You will be given access to one of the project books to use for reference while learning the software).
  • Document “How-to” procedures in manuals (as you learn how to use Quickbooks and Procore, you will document your procedures in order to streamline future accounting methods. This will allow you to identify and implement work process improvements to streamline accounting methods.)
  • Maintain project books in Procore and general ledger in Quickbooks 
  • Provide property valuation reports for existing properties and new properties being pursued
  • Create asset management spreadsheets and update old reports as needed
  • Assist and/or prepare timely, complete, and accurate monthly financial reports including calculation and posting of associated accruals, prepaid expenses, bank and other reconciliations, and property budget variance analysis
  • Managing month/quarter/year-end closing processes to include maintaining and communicating closing schedules 
  • Responsible for cash management and weekly check run process while ensuring proper invoice coding
  • Assist in preparation of monthly loan draws 
  • Assist with preparation of year end budgets and monthly reforecasts
  • Review all new and existing debt agreements and calculate covenant testing to ensure debt compliance

Who you are and what you bring:
  • BS/BA in Accounting preferred or General Business
  • Experience in or a strong desire to learn Real Estate Construction and/or Property Accounting 
  • Experience in or a strong desire to learn Quickbooks and Procore 
  • Passion for the field of real estate development
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Grace under pressure, the ability to switch gears quickly
  • Strong technical aptitude
