Tree Planting Specialist (Botanic Specialist II - Forestry)

Portland Parks & Recreation is hiring a Tree Planting Specialist to plan and manage urban tree planting projects. Portland is committed to growing a more equitable urban forest by planting trees where they are needed most: in low canopy, low income neighborhoods according to the City’s tree planting strategy.

This position is skilled at surveying neighborhoods to find the best locations for high-impact tree planting, on both public and private property. The Tree Planting Specialist position conducts site inventories, selects species and creates site plans, and works with property owners to provide notification or secure permissions. This position manages contractors who conduct tree procurement, planting, and establishment, and ensures that contract specifications are followed to ensure healthy, well-established trees. This position may manage seasonal staff to monitor trees and assist with planting program activities. 

Excellent communication, outreach, and organization skills are required. The ability to successfully work with diverse communities, property owners, businesses, and agencies to plant trees is essential.
