Workplace Dignity and Inclusion Associate

Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights is seeking a Program Associate to join the Workplace Dignity Program in San Francisco or New York. This new initiative bridges our long-standing global human rights work and the values that underlie it to the workplace, with a specific focus on what workplace dignity means and how it can be made actionable. Specifically, the Workplace Dignity initiative will:
 
  • Educate business and other organizational leaders on how human rights principles apply to the workplace 
  • Create actionable tools and other support to assess dignity-related competencies and implement behaviors that honor workplace dignity day-to-day
  • Utilize social media and other visibility and branding platforms, to establish our voice, credibility and presence in this space, and to promote related content
  • Celebrate and recognize workplace dignity champions and advocates
  • Support advocates of carefully selected, high-impact dignity-advancing workplace legislation and support efforts to defeat dignity-diminishing legislation
  • Incorporate workplace dignity as a content anchor in other relevant RFK programs 
 
What you’ll primarily be working on:
  • Project Management: Support and help lead key team projects, serving as the day-to-day
lead on project execution, management, and coordination (~65%)
  • Structure and manage project timelines and work plans, proactively spot opportunities to accelerate our impact or avoid potential risks or slow-downs
  • Bring your thought leadership and perspectives to strategy implementation decisions
  • Coordinate project work plans with other teams at RFK Human Rights
  • Prepare briefings and other materials
  • Synthesize underlying research related to project work
  • Support our Advisory Council, and help plan Advisory Council working meetings
  • Serve as a resource and point of contact for clients, partners and stakeholders

  • Team Coordination & Support: Support overall team project management by designing
and maintaining team tools and systems (20%)
  • Design team meeting agendas, capture key takeaways and action items
  • Maintain and monitor team progress against its 2020 objectives and key results; help develop future goals and objectives
  • Create a suite of tools to support the team’s internal management and external communications (one page overview of the portfolio, timelines, budget trackers, client deliverable schedules, calendar of events and communications, etc.)
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration across other programs and departments 
  • Contribute to communications collateral such as team updates, briefing reports, talking points, etc. for the President’s office and other key stakeholders
  • Develop tools and resources to track the effectiveness of programs and workstreams
  • Support budget development and management processes
  • Do your part in keeping our operations running smoothly - tracking your hours and submitting timecards in a timely manner

  • External Engagement: Represent the Workplace Dignity team externally and to partners as needed (15%)
  • Monitor developments in the field – stakeholders, events, research, policy
movements, important upcoming events, etc.; create analysis and summaries as needed
  • Represent the Workplace Dignity team at key external events and meetings
  • Support team’s offsite engagement work with partners and related relationship building
  • Your first three (3) months are an introductory period when you’ll train and learn all the ins-and-outs of your role and the organization
Qualifications:
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a related field (e.g., workplace effectiveness or training, workplace culture, leadership development, organizational effectiveness, human rights education, social science relating to the workplace, either in government, nonprofit, consulting, corporate)
  • Subject matter knowledge and interest in any of these areas that will be relevant to our work -- workforce development, workplace culture and organizational behavior, human resources, organized labor, impact/ESG investing, inclusion and diversity
  • Strong analytical and research abilities
  • Time management, you have the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects at once;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Interest in speaking before groups and facilitating discussions around complex issues
  • Direct experience working in diverse geographic areas across the US (understanding of international workplace culture issues is a plus, too)
  • Effective and creative Keynote, PowerPoint, or Google Slides skills
  • High level of integrity and discretion in handling sensitive information
  • Innovative thinking, an unwillingness to accept things as they are, and a strong work ethic are essential 
  • Teamwork, you are able to build positive relationships with your colleagues and are willing to help others
  • Inclusive, you’re excited to work with colleagues with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives from your own.
