After School Program Leader - Full Time

Full-Time AmeriCorps Site Coordinator OR Reading Coordinator Position Description
Term of Service is September 1, 2020 – July 30, 2021

Project Transformation is transforming the lives of young adults and the children they serve through our year-round programs in underserved areas of Dallas. The service experience is hands-on with the young adults serving in teams and connecting children from diverse cultural, social, and economic backgrounds with many adult volunteers. Members have recurring access to vulnerable populations in accordance with CNCS definition. Members are required to wear the AmeriCorps logo daily while serving as an AmeriCorps Member. Members will serve under the supervision of Project Transformation’s Director of Programming and Leadership Development, Elspeth Allen Glaubitz.

Essential Duties:
- Coordinate and implement a nine-month virtual after-school program, Mondays through Thursdays from 2:30pm – 6:30pm, serving approximately 40 children between 6 and 12 years old. Daily activities include on-site food distribution, homework assistance, planning and creating video content with their teams for social emotional learning, reading, physical recreation activities and rotational weekly lessons including nutrition, arts enrichment, life skills, or computer. This would be 3 days a week, one of those days being leadership training.
- Participate in weekly meetings with director of programming.
- Oversee site food program, including ordering and delivery from local food distributors.
- Coordinate and implement bi-monthly community events (Family Fun Nights).
- Build relationships with children and families by communicating with the parents and teachers of the children involved in the after school program.
- Build relationships with site pastor/supervisor and act as liaison between site, team and program staff.
- Attend weekly meetings with site pastor/supervisor.
- Facilitate weekly team meetings.
- Participate in leadership development training every Friday afternoon.
- Participate in quarterly service projects.
- Participate in start-up training retreats for the after school and summer programs.
- Complete and submit weekly all required site management paperwork.
- Submit daily and weekly attendance data to program manager.
- During the summer months, live in community and serve as part of a team leading an extended daily summer program for approximately 60-80 children and youth. Daily activities include one-to-one reading support, arts enrichment, physical recreation activities and other enrichment activities.
- Teleservice Activities may include CNCS approved alternate service activities such as, but not limited to, contact tracing calls to support COVID-19 response, video testimonials on service, civic reflection and discussions with members or staff, contacting families for program surveys, team meetings, Family Outreach: Responsible for contacting parents of enrolled children check in with and see how they are doing, provide encouragement and share tips/resources, notify them of schedule of available AmeriCorps activities and services, contribute towards the development of on-line & print program content, review and respond to children’s completed activities.
- Requirements for teleservice: access to internet, ability to serve remotely, ability to serve independently, ability implement training provided by PT on platforms expected for service such as Google Suite apps, Slack, WeVideo, YouTube, Microsoft Word, and docusign.

Qualifications:
- Must be a U.S citizen, U.S. national or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States.
- Must be at least 17 years of age.
- Must have completed at least one year of college.
- Must enjoy working with children and/or youth.
- Must display leadership skills, including but not limited to communication, organization, problem solving, dependability, commitment, and flexibility.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work effectively independently as well as with a team.
- Must be comfortable with leading and/or serving with the site team, including work-study students, other AmeriCorps members, site staff, volunteers, community partners and PT staff.
- Must have proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Internet.
- Must support the Mission and Core Values of Project Transformation.
- Must meet AmeriCorps qualification criteria, including serving a minimum of 1,700 hours and serving through July 30, 2021.

Compensation:
- $14,000.08 living stipend for one year of service *amount subject to remain the same or increase
- $6,095 education award (can be applied towards past loans or future education) – upon completion of hours and full length of service term as stated above *amount subject to remain the same or increase

In the event of a local, state, or federal disaster declaration, AmeriCorps members may be asked on a volunteer basis or be required by OneStar to activate to assist in disaster response and recovery activities within their communities. This may involve virtual service opportunities or in-person service opportunities. This may include service opportunities outside of the member’s standard service hours or in place of their standard service duties. In the event of a large-scale, high needs local, state, or federal disaster, AmeriCorps members may voluntarily or be required by OneStar to deploy to an area outside of their service area to assist in disaster response and recovery activities.

*Member safety is important to Project Transformation North Texas AmeriCorps Program and all host sites. If a member feels uncomfortable serving, they should reach out to their host site supervisor and/or AmeriCorps Project Transformation North Texas Program staff member for accommodations. All members are provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for in-person service as long as health guidelines require use for in-person service

*Note: In the event that the COVID-19 pandemic impacts the ability of members to implement in-person service activities, members will conduct aligned teleservice activities. AmeriCorps defines Teleservice as: “meaningfully serving or participating in training from a remote location where an AmeriCorps site supervisor or Program Manager is unable to physically be present to verify hours served by an AmeriCorps member.”
