The Thompson Learning Community (TLC) is designed to promote the academic success of UNO students receiving the Susan T. Buffett Scholarship. TLC provides William H. Thompson Scholars a sequence of common courses, academic enhancement activities, academic and personal advisement, and opportunities to connect with faculty, staff, and peers to create an inclusive, welcoming environment.
The TLC Office is a dynamic area with a great deal of student interaction. The TLC Specialist will serve as an academic and personal resource to William H. Thompson Scholars at UNO focused on helping scholars master concepts/skills necessary to successfully complete university course requirements.
Specialists in TLC enhance the academic and personal development of students by advising primarily first- and second-year students, however, Specialists also provide support to any William H. Thompson Scholar in need of assistance navigating academic/administrative and personal obstacles to college completion.
The Specialists’ day-to-day duties will include teaching college-ready courses, overseeing programmatic aspects of the first- and second-year experience and supporting any students who request support. Specialists will also engage in consultation with faculty regarding student support, maintain databases that support the program and serve on assigned university committees and other related projects.
Required Qualifications:
·        Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Sociology, or related field
·        Student advisement experience (education and navigation, graduation success, career success), to include teaching and/or workshop facilitation experience.
·        Experience supporting college students in their education.
·        May consider an equivalent combination of education/experience.
Salary Information: Mid-to upper 40s depending on experience, education
