Healthcare Coalition Facilitator and Advocate (Part-time)

HEALTHCARE COALITION FACILITATOR AND ADVOCATE (Part-Time 50%)
 
Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid (MMLA) is seeking a Facilitator and Advocate to work with the  Coalition of Healthcare Navigator Organizations. This is a half-time position and the person will be based in MMLA’s Minneapolis office. This is a grant funded position with current funding through June 2022. Efforts continue to expand and extend funding.
 
BACKGROUND: The Navigator Coalition is comprised of organizations across the state that provide navigator services to help residents enroll in public and private healthcare coverage through MNsure. The Coalition’s objective is to support the work of these organizations, improve people’s access to healthcare coverage, and advocate for a sustainable navigator program that serves the people of Minnesota. MMLA has a robust navigator program that operates from its St. Cloud office and is a founding member of the Navigator Coalition.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Facilitator and Advocate will provide direct support to the Navigator Coalition by working directly with its Steering Committee to lead monthly meetings, help set meeting and advocacy agendas, develop and maintain relationships with external partners, coordinate external meetings, monitor the Coalition’s external communications, and lead advocacy efforts with members of the steering committee.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: Concern for the needs and rights of low-income persons is required. This position requires the ability to lead a coalition structure: facilitation of meetings, leveraging member organizations’ time and talent, and organizing around advocacy issues. Strong communication skills and attention to detail are needed qualifications for Coalition leadership. Experience as a Navigator or with healthcare enrollment is preferred, but the ability to develop and maintain familiarity with health insurance enrollment systems and navigator duties and expertise is required. Diverse economic, social, or cultural experiences are strongly preferred. Criminal background check may be required. Proficiency using Microsoft Windows, Office, and Teams or other group meeting web-based software is required.
 
SALARY: The salary for this half-time position is $25,500 and is based on the MMLA salary schedule. Benefits include vacation, sick leave, family medical, life, and short-term/long-term disability insurance.
