AmeriCorps - WSC Youth Opportunity Program

Washington Service Corps has multiple AmeriCorps positions throughout Washington State.
Most positions are full time 10-1/2 month service terms with a modest living allowance, health insurance, student loan forbearance, and childcare assistance (if eligible).

Upon successful completion of the service term, members become eligible for the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. The education award (currently $6,195) can be used to pay off student loans, pay tuition, and other college expenses.

Our Youth Program focuses on young adults, ages 16-24, who have become disengaged from school or employment.
Through training and mentorship, members support these youth in gaining self-sufficiency. They provide tutoring to individuals to complete their GED, prepare for college or certification in trades; and provide training in workplace skills, job searching, and financial literacy.

Examples of service activities include:
  • Providing financial literacy education and support to economically disadvantaged adults with regard to credit management, financial institutions, and utilization of savings plans.
  • Recruiting college readiness program participants through outreach to local high schools and community organizations.
  • Assisting youth in their academic and career planning; and providing referrals to other services based on individual needs.
