AmeriCorps - WSC Environmental Stewardship

Washington Service Corps has multiple AmeriCorps positions throughout Washington State.
Most positions are full time 10-1/2 month service terms with a modest living allowance, health insurance, student loan forbearance, and childcare assistance (if eligible).

Upon successful completion of the service term, members become eligible for the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. The education award (currently $6,195) can be used to pay off student loans, pay tuition, and pay other college expenses.

Positions in the Environmental focus area will generally include conservation, restoration, and community engagement.

Members serve at small non-profit agencies, city and county offices, and national wildlife refuges. They educate the public about our state’s ecosystems and human impact upon the environment; they recruit and manage volunteers in habitat restoration projects; and perform field and lab work to help with monitoring and data collection.

Examples of service activities include:
  • Assisting with experimental research of site restoration practices.
  • Identifying collected specimens and monitoring species in the field.
  • Implementing environmental education events and volunteer restoration events.
  • Collaborating with local school groups, the Washington Trails Association, and land owners to enhance public access to natural areas.
