Student Trainee (Information Technology)

Summary
This position is in NASA's Pathways Intern Program which provides students with the opportunity to explore NASA careers and gain meaningful developmental work experience. The individual assigned to this position will perform duties of a developmental nature, with oversight and guidance from experienced professional employees in the information and technology area.



Responsibilities

  • Assist incident response management.
  • Assist in computer forensics examinations and consultation.
  • Utilize IT security policies, guidelines, and standards to ensure Glenn Research Center compliance with FISMA, NIST, and Agency requirements.
  • Oversee the implementation of IT security initiatives, projects, and work assignments.
  • Review system security plans for scope and level of detail and make recommendations to the CISO and system owners on their completeness and applicability to regulations and policies.
  • Maintain IT security operations resulting from requirements such as laws, regulations, or Presidential directives such as National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), and NASA NPD 2810.
  • Serve as integration lead for IT security programs.
  • Assist in tracking and oversight of Center cybersecurity vulnerability identification and mitigation actions.



Conditions of Employment

  • You must be a U. S. citizen or national
  • Enrolled/accepted in an accredited educational institution
  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher with at least 30 semester hours completed by the close date of the announcement.
  • Maintain enrollment at least half time as defined by the institution
  • Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.9 on a 4.0 scale
  • This appointment will start no later than May 26, 2021.
  • Available to work at least 640 hours prior to completion of degree.
  • You must have at least one calendar year remaining in your undergraduate studies prior to graduation by the start date of your appointment.
  • Candidates who indicate an expected completion date prior to September 28, 2020, will be found ineligible. The answers you provide in the NASA Supplemental Questionnaire will be used to make this determination.
  • You must meet eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Qualifications

Starting GS grade levels are determined by education level:
GS-4: Enrolled in a bachelor's degree program and have completed at least 30 semester hours or at least 45 quarter hours of undergraduate education.
GS-5: Enrolled in a bachelor's degree program and have completed at least 60 semester hours or at least 90 quarter hours of undergraduate education.
GS-6: Enrolled in a bachelor's degree program and have completed 90 or more semester hours or 135 or more quarter hours of undergraduate education.
GS-7: Accepted into a master's program OR in the first year of a master's degree program.
GS-9: Completed one academic year of a master's program OR accepted into a doctorate program OR in the first year of a doctorate program.
GS-11: Completed one year of doctorate-level study.



Education

You must be pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major study in any field at an institution accredited by the Department of Education.
