Summary: The Office of Chief Counsel is the largest tax law firm in the country. It plays a central role in the administration of the Federal tax laws. Its principal client is the Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service. Its attorneys provide guidance on the correct legal interpretation of the tax laws. For example, the Office of Chief Counsel drafts regulations, rulings, and other published legal guidance; handles tens of thousands of cases per year in the U.S. Tax Court and works closely with the Department of Justice on other tax litigation in other Federal courts; and provides specific legal advice and determinations to taxpayers and to various IRS offices both before and after taxes are filed.

Duties: As a Legal Assistant in the Office of Chief Counsel, you will gain experience in the largest government law firm. You will provide clerical support to the legal staff by preparing and assembling documents, maintaining legal files and documents, receiving incoming correspondence, reviewing outgoing correspondence, making travel arrangements, arranging appointments and conferences, receiving telephone calls and visitors, and other challenging work.
