Unpaid Continuity of Operations Intern

About New York City Cyber Command
New York City Cyber Command (NYC3) was created in 2017 by Executive Order to lead the city’s cyber defense efforts, working across more than 100 agencies and offices to prevent, detect, respond, and recover from cyber threats. New York City Cyber Command (NYC3) is committed to protecting City infrastructure and critical systems from cyber threats, and helping residents become safer in their digital lives.

As the organization defending the largest municipality in the country, NYC3 is charged with directing citywide incident response, setting citywide cybersecurity policies and standards, and working with city agencies to strengthen their cyber defenses. 

Job Description
Under the guidance of the Continuity of Operations leaders, you will be responsible for helping NYC3 develop, document and publish high quality continuity of operations plans, roadmaps and playbooks. These foundational documents will allow NYC3 to provide security to City agencies and the City in the face of adversity.

Activities of the Continuity of Operations Intern will include, but are not limited to:
  • Conduct research into NYC Continuity of Operations standards and best practices to determine those incidents that are most likely to impact NYC3 operations and work with NYC3 leaders to craft plans that minimize impact to the security mission from those incidents;
  • Interprets government regulations and applicable directives, and advises leaders on the best course of action;
  • Draft a roadmap and strategic plan for NYC3 to be the most resilient agency within the NYC government;
  • Draft, edit, and refine materials such as slide decks, trackers and playbooks for NYC3 leaders to reference in times of adversity;
  • Attend meetings and assist with tracking and follow-up on key action items;
  • Contribute to the organizational culture and ethos, both internally and externally;
  • Support NYC Cyber Command during any significant incident;

Preferred Skills:
  • Majors and concentrations or work experience in Emergency Management, City Planning, Continuity of Government, Continuity of Operations, Business Continuity Planning, Crisis Management, Homeland Security, or something similar;
  • Experience leading or working in an Emergency Management office or team;
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated active listening and teamwork skills;
  • Demonstrated experience working with others on challenging, complex initiatives and efforts;
  • Outstanding collaboration skills;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Excellent organization skills;
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills demonstrating support of executive decision making.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Selected candidates must be enrolled in a degree bearing program

SPECIAL NOTE
Due to the current COVID-19 crisis, this opportunity will be remote. Internship will be unpaid and interns must show proof of their university giving academic credit or funding from their university or authorized 3rd party. The length of this part or full time, 17 up to 35 hour per week internship will be no longer than 12 weeks.
