 LOCATION: Richmond, Virginia
 START DATE: September 2020
 DURATION: 1 year
 STIPEND: $15,500
 Background: The International Rescue Committee helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their future.
 Scope of Service: The Economic Empowerment AmeriCorps will provide training on topics including job readiness, financial and digital literacy, and vocational English and support other activities to help recently arrived refugees and other immigrants attain economic self-sufficiency through employment. This position reports to the Employment Specialist.
 Responsibilities:
·         Deliver and update as appropriate existing job training curriculum
·         Educate clients on financial and digital literacy individually or through classes as needed
·         Implement and conduct vocational training courses that include English language training, cultural and workplace orientation, mock interviews, creation of resumes and job skills development sessions
·         Conduct pre- and post-assessments to assist in program evaluation
·         Track attendance and client progress within client physical and electronic files
·         Recruit, train and supervise volunteers from targeted sectors (such as health/medical, IT, manufacturing) to provide mentoring and guidance to clients
·         Provide employment and job-placement support as needed
·         Participate in all program meetings, development activities, and other meetings as needed
 Requirements:
·         Experience in adult education, teaching or tutoring English as a second language, or workforce development and understanding of financial basics a plus
·         Strong communication skills with fluency in written and spoken English; Bilingual ability in one of the predominant languages of the local client base is desired
·         Demonstrated experience working in a multicultural environment
·         Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
·         Must have a valid driver’s license and consistent access to reliable transportation
·         Must be a US citizen or legal permanent resident and authorized to work in the U.S.
·         Must be at least 18 years old
·         Must commit to one full year of service
Upon completion of service, AmeriCorps member will be eligible for an education award of approx. $6,195.
Proposed activities will be supported, in part, with federal funds from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) AmeriCorps State program subgranted through the Commonwealth of Virginia, Virginia Department of Social Services. Activities are contingent upon funding availability and award from CNCS.
