An outstanding postdoctoral position is available at the UCLA Division of Cardiology and the Broad Stem Cell Research Center. We are a dynamic group interested in regenerative medicine and cardiovascular development, specifically in using pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) for generating chamber-specific cardiomyocytes and subsequent transplantation in animal models (small and large animal models). We investigate how cardiovascular progenitors commit to a specific fate and how they can be guided to adopt a more mature phenotype. We characterize PSC-derived cardiomyocytes based on their morphology, gene expression, and functional properties. Our goal is to isolate and characterize PSC-derived cardiomyocyte subtypes and promote their maturation and improve their engraftment upon transplantation.
Working independently but in close consultation with the Principal Investigator and other Research Scientists, you will perform routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout the training period, and may develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols while analyzing and interpreting data. You will participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author and may assist in the preparation of grant proposals, but are not responsible for generating grant funds.
The successful candidate should have the following qualifications:
  • Strong advanced skills in culture and maintenance of mammalian cell lines and primary human cells. Experience in differentiation, isolation, and characterization of cardiovascular progenitors preferred.
  • Experience in cell manipulation, flow cytometry and cell sorting, cell tracking, and advanced cell imaging tools.
  • Experience working with CRISPR/Cas9 or other related genome editing modalities preferred.
  • Experience in standard molecular biology techniques (eg. Cloning, qRT-PCR).
  • Previous experience in RNAseq analysis and basic bioinformatics is highly desired.
  • Ability to multitask and complete work on time. Ability to contribute and work in a cross-functional, multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Well organized, able to plan work appropriately. Attention to detail. Strong problem-solving skills.
