The Deputy Executive Director of Operations/COO oversees the organization’s operations functions (development, finance, human resources, information technology, security, and facilities) and is responsible for supporting our institution and colleagues to ensure that HRW continues to build our organization for maximum impact in the world today, including by ensuring the vitality of management systems and processes, in areas such as strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation, diversity and inclusion, stress and resilience, and organizational culture. This position reports to and supports the Deputy Executive Director of Operations/COO and regularly partners with Executive Assistant to the Executive Director. 
Until the DED/COO role is filled, this position will report to the Transitional Executive Team co-chairs, Shantha Rau Barriga and Philippe Bolopion. This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term position with the possibility of extension.
Responsibilities Include:
1. Manage calendar for the Transitional Executive Team co-chairs to promote the most effective use of their time;
2. Plan and prepare for meetings, including drafting agendas, preparing documents or presentations;
3. Attend critical meetings as directed, take and distribute minutes, and follow up proactively, as needed;
4. Assist with the development and implementation of more efficient working methods and information systems;
5. Coordinate online information sharing and learning, including applicable resource pages on HRW’s intranet;
6. Provide other administrative support to the Transition Team co-chairs, including processing office finances, and creating and maintaining extensive filing and archiving systems;
7. Format, proofread, and distribute documents;
8. Coordinate domestic and international travel schedule, including all logistics and appointments, as needed;
9. Carry out other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: A bachelor’s degree in business administration, nonprofit management, or a related field is required.

Experience: A minimum of two to three or relevant work experience is desirable.

Related Skills and Knowledge:
1. Prior office/administration experience and exceptional organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail are required.
2. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required.
3. Strong interpersonal skills in order to work collaboratively within HRW and the ability to communicate with a variety of audiences are required.
4. Ability to work well under pressure while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously is required.
5. Ability to prioritize with minimal supervision and work independently as well as function as a member of a team with staff in multiple locations globally is required.
6. Ability to make sound decisions consistent with functions and complete tasks in a timely manner is required.
7. Ability to maintain discretion and respect confidentiality at all times is required.
8. Proficiency in computer packages including MS Office applications is required.
9. Excellent writing and editing skills are required; proofreading experience is desirable.
10. Experience with information management and online systems, especially Microsoft SharePoint, is highly desirable.
11. Strong interest in international human rights is preferred.
