Editorial Assistant - Chemistry

Assist in the administrative aspects of higher education publishing in the discipline of chemistry. Assist with communication to faculty advisory boards, managing key content review programs, writing & editing reviews, creating JIRA tickets and ISBN’s for projects, and processing relevant payments for freelancers and vendors. Editorial assistants help program managers prepare for key meetings & events. You will also help plan and attend key offsite events. At these events the EA will assist with logistics for customers and attendees as well as take notes and be present in customer-facing meetings.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Recruit, communicate with, and help inform faculty advisory boards, reviewer panels, and key content contributors.
  • Program and contribute to title and content review and market surveys.
  • Create JIRA tickets for titles.
  • Create ISBNs in Kloe.
  • Process payments for honoraria and vendor invoices.
  • Maintain and update data in key editorial systems.
  • Help your program manager prepare for key meetings.
  • Attend and support your programs manager for select internal and external meetings both on and off-site, e.g. pre-revision planning meetings, retrospectives, or faculty-facing meetings such as conferences, forums, or workshops.
  • Help find solutions and offer support for miscellaneous needs or tasks that arise in the day to day work of your program manager.
  • Special projects and career development that will help expand your skill set and explore potential career paths at Macmillan Learning.
 
Essential Qualifications:
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively and professionally with diverse stakeholders across departments
  • Experience tracking deadlines and deliverables
  • Initiative, curiosity, and follow-through
  • Highly organized in your approach to work
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Internship or work experience with publisher
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or English
  • Experience working as a teacher’s assistant
  • Experience working in a corporate office or academic office environment
  • Project management experience
  • Experience working with shared documents on Google office suite
  • Event planning and event management experience
 
Must be able to concentrate and maintain detail-orientation in busy, open office environment. Must be able to multi-task, prioritize, and maintain calm and focus under stressful situations. Must be able to bend and reach to file and shelve books Must be able to travel occasionally and work more than 40 hours a week as needed.
