Avian Care and Professional Interpretation Intern 2023

We have openings for interns who support the mission of the National Eagle Center and share our passion for eagles.
An internship at the National Eagle Center is a great opportunity to develop skills in naturalist interpretation, public speaking, nonprofits, and recreation and tourism. We work to individualize the internship as much as possible by looking at each person’s prior experience, skill set and goals. Our staff will work with you to find the best fit. Some areas of interest and need are:
Avian Care
Interns will learn what is required to care for our resident eagles and perform daily husbandry tasks. Daily husbandry includes cleaning the eagle enclosure, food preparation, perch maintenance, and enrichment for the resident eagles. Avian care position also includes the opportunity to learn about eagle behavior and offer interpretation to National Eagle Center visitors.
Education
Help our staff develop educational resources that align to Minnesota and Wisconsin K-12 curriculum standards.
Fishing on the Refuge
Our fishing program is a great way to gain skills in managing a project and hands-on environmental education. Offered weekdays throughout the summer, this program offers more than 500 young people the chance to learn about responsible angling, have a great fishing experience, and donate their catch to feed the bald eagle ambassadors.
Golden Eagle Project
During the winter months, assist with the Golden Eagle Project. Activities include participating in bird surveys, coordinating survey volunteers, and data entry.
Interpreter
The National Eagle Center takes pride in offering world-class educational programs for the public. Interns will learn about bald and golden eagles, develop naturalist interpretation skills, and prepare and present a live eagle program for the public.

All interns would also have the opportunity to learn about a variety of aspects of a non-profit business, including marketing, fundraising, and customer service. Students with a specific interest in these areas are welcome to inquire about creating an internship experience specifically in any of these areas.
Internships at the National Eagle Center are unpaid. Limited housing is available on site. Many interns have worked with their university to receive college credit.
