Fall 2020 Non-Profit Development & Administration Internship
Stimson, a nonpartisan public policy institute committed to finding and promoting practical and innovative solutions to national and international security challenges, seeks an energetic and focused individual.

Internships are volunteer experiences only. All internships are unpaid.
The Development and Administration departments at Stimson hope to foster an educational experience that gives insight into nonprofit management practices, development strategy, and the day-to-day work and planning that goes into managing a successful grant program, board engagement, and new fundraising campaigns. The intern will also have the opportunity to interact with all of Stimson's programs. Applicants should have an interest in foreign policy issues and should be highly motivated and sincere in their desire for an internship that is challenging and professional in nature. We aim to give interns access and insight into Stimson's programmatic work, communications efforts, and broad organizational initiatives.
Responsibilities include:
  • Grant and donor research:
  • Research potential funding sources including government, foundations, corporations, and individual donors and providing summaries to the Development team, CEO, and/or program staff.
  • Regularly review specific databases of grant opportunities for potential fit with Stimson programming
  • Development campaigns:
  • Support content development for print materials, the department's internal newsletter, the website, and any other materials;
  • Provide admin, editing, and logistical support for the annual report, online giving, and year-end appeals.
  • Stewardship:
  • Draft and edit acknowledgement letters to donors;
  • Support grants management efforts and work with the Development assistant to maintain communication between programs and Development department on cultivation and stewardship efforts;
  • Support Director of Development in Board of Directors management and stewardship;
  • Program Support:
  • Help manage the proposal and report timeline;
  • Providing administrative support as needed, reporting directly to the Executive Assistant to the President and CEO; these duties may include event support and document management.
Qualified candidates will demonstrate exceptional writing skills, consistent attention to detail, and a strong sense of self-motivation.
