Position Summary
This is a temporary, part-time, hourly paid position. The Education Specialist (ES) is selected by the Education Program Manager and the Department Deputy Director. The ES supports the Education Program Manager with the design and implementation of a virtual learning environment for Caritas Education Program. This position requires serving refugees, immigrants, veterans and other populations that have experienced homelessness. Administrative tasks are also required.
 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Education Services

  • Prepare class material (training material, photocopy handouts, class supplies, etc.
  • Collaborate with Education Program Team in the design and implementation of standard operational procedures for communication and delivery of training in a virtual learning environment. 
  • Design and delivery an entry level computer training to prepare clients to receive services in a computer assisted virtual learning environment. 
  • Teach Education Program Life Skill classes, Refugee Cultural Orientation Classes, Job Readiness Class Series, Gender Dialogue class series, and Workforce Related Classes: Food Industry Employment and Training (FIET) and Introduction to the Hospitality Industry (IHI).
Client Support Assistance

  • Be first point of contact with clients after case manager referral and make client reminder calls.
  • Keep updated and accurate information in the Education database. 
  • Meet with clients immediately before class to review individualized education plan and discuss available classes.
  • Follow up with clients as needed.
  • Respond to individual client concerns with accurate information in an effective and timely manner.
Administrative Tasks

  • Register clients for internal education program classes and enter information into client database.
  • Email case managers and Employment Specialist class reminders and attendance reports.
  • Serve as back up for the Education Program staff in case of emergency.  
  • Monitor own work to ensure quality.
  • Follow employee policies and procedures.
  • Support Caritas goals and values.
Other duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Treat clients, staff and the general public with courtesy and respect.
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major in areas related to education, human services, social work or psychology.
Experience

  • Must have three years of experience in adult education training or administration serving diverse populations.
Computer Skills

  • High degree of familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and standard office equipment required.
  • Skillful in the use of client database systems.
  • Familiarity and experience in the use of virtual learning platforms (MS Teams, Zoom) to delivery training.
  • Some level of familiarity in designing training material for adults.
Other Skills

  • Must have ability to work collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability and flexibility to organize working hours and work remotely and with little supervision.
Other position requirements

  • Must have dependable transportation.
  • Must be fully bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred) or other language.
