Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center – Fall 2020 Internship

Our interns are an integral part of the Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center. Within a small group, most of our projects are all-hands-on-deck and we encourage interns to actively engage in the formulation of events, publications, and overall Center strategies. This position will expose the candidate to the writing process for publications and articles, all aspects of event planning, the proposal process for developing projects, and creating strategic initiatives within a think tank. Given its flat management system, Arsht Center interns have daily exposure and interaction with the directors and the rest of the staff. In a fast-paced environment, the intern will be encouraged to provide new ideas and recommendations on how to build on the Center’s foundation.
The Successful candidates will have a passion for the work, an entrepreneurial ethos, and a collegial spirit; they will be an effective communicator; and will enjoy learning and growing in a fast-paced organization. Demonstrated interest in international affairs, specifically Latin America, through classwork and/or experience is preferred.
Fall Internships will begin on the following dates:
  • September 8, 2020
  • September 14, 2020

The deadline to apply is July 31, 2020, but applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and will continue until a successful candidate has been selected.


The positions are unpaid, but candidates gain valuable skills, experience, knowledge, and contacts in the Washington, DC international policy community. A monthly metro reimbursement is offered, along with Workshops, briefings with fellows, as well as other senior-level staff. 


Responsibilities

  • Conduct research to support the activities of the Center.
  • Draft memos, blog posts, and articles for publication.
  • Handle various elements of planning and execution of program events.
  •  Draft formal correspondence to government officials and invitations for events.
  •  Take notes at Council roundtables and strategy sessions for program archives.
  •  Maintain and update contact lists via Salesforce and Pardot.
  •  Monitor and research Latin American policy issues.
  • Create and maintain media lists.
  • Conduct media outreach to promote the Center’s events, publications, and writings.
  • Book Arsht Center directors and fellows on radio and television, and pitch experts for publication. 
  • Draft materials such as memos, blog posts, and articles for publication. Apply an aggressive social media strategy to promote the Center’s work. Monitor media hits that include Arsht Center work and Arsht Center experts.
  • Support the Latin America Center in creating and updating content on its website using Word press.


Qualifications

  • Must be at least a college junior in good standing, a graduate student, or a recent graduate, preferably pursuing degrees in international affairs, Latin American affairs, strategic communications or journalism, conflict resolution, or business administration are encouraged to apply.
  • Must have at least a 3.5 GPA (out of 4.0) scale, or equivalent from a non-U.S. institution.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office – particularly Excel.
  • Experience with graphic design or video production a plus.
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese required.
  • Excellent English written and oral skills.
  • Strong analytical skills, with proven ability to decipher and communicate data.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Experience using Word Press preferred.
  • Interest in and knowledge of a range of core topics related to the Center’s priorities, including trade, energy, foreign direct investment, Brazil, China-Latin America, and others.

International applications are welcome, but candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. The Atlantic Council does not facilitate visas for internship applicants but can assist in having a third party sponsor a visa. Internship applicants are responsible for any costs associated with the visa sponsorship.

This Fall internships will be remote due to COVID-19 , however, there is a possibility for in-office opportunities for local interns
