Investment Officer II, will consider Investment Officer I

Job Description and Duties

The CalSTRS Investments Branch is seeking an experienced individual to work as an Investment Officer II in the Investment Operations Unit.

Investment Operations’ primary function is to provide middle-office support for internal and external portfolio activities by performing pre-settlement portfolio controls, cash and trade management, cash flow analysis, portfolio and total fund reporting, and by partnering with the asset classes to align operational services for the successful implementation of the Investment Policy and Management Plan.

Under the general direction of the Associate Portfolio Manager, the incumbent provides a high-level of investment and financial expertise to staff and management, oversees the operational complexities in managing the CalSTRS’ Investment Portfolio, and performs a wide range of analytical and technical work to support the critical functions of Investment Operations. The incumbent is responsible for performing complex duties requiring a high degree of independence, confidentiality, creativity and discretionary judgement.

Responsibilities of the Investment Officer II include:
  • Providing a high-level of investment and financial expertise to support Investment Operations.
  • Maintaining complex fixed income, equity and derivative portfolios on the respective Portfolio Investment Management System (PIMS).
  • Overseeing the corporate action events for North America, Europe, Australasia, and Far East EAFE on the PIMS for the Fixed Income and Global Equity units.
  • Supporting the implementation of the Investment Policy Management Plan, including new investment strategies, programs and transition management.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of operational aspects of new and innovative investment strategies.
  • Assisting with the activities associated with the enhanced home loan program and silent seconds.
Duties and responsibilities will be adjusted at the Investment Officer I level.

The Investment Officer II classification is eligible for incentive compensation and has a maximum incentive opportunity of 10% of base salary.

An Investment Officer I or II who possesses a professional certification as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) may receive a 5% monthly base pay differential.

The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of fund accounting principles, and experience with investment portfolio reconciliation.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university with major coursework in investments, finance, or accounting
