Young Adult Librarian
The Young Adult Librarian works as part of the branch team and performs essential library work concentrating on service to Young Adults.
- Plans, coordinates, and promotes young adult services and programs, including summer reading, maker space and other special events.
- Identifies information needs in the community and plans and provides services to meet these needs.
- Leads Innovation Lab activities.
- Provides reader's advisory and reference services.
- Develops and sustains partnerships with college departments, local schools and organizations in serving young adult services' customers.
- Develops an engaging and attractive young adult library collection through awareness of current young adult literature.
- Attends staff meetings, activities, and/or professional conferences, and actively serves on committees.
- Implements knowledge of current trends in young adult services, programs and maker space initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA (American Library Association) accredited school.
- A minimum of one (1) year of customer service experience.
- A minimum of one (1) year working directly with young adults.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Proficient with Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).
- Proficient with the Internet and Office 365.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment.
- Ability to work well with public and staff members.
Physical Requirements:
Some duties would require the ability to lift up to twenty (20) pounds and bending & standing for periods at a time.
Work Environment:
- This job typically operates in a professional office environment.
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- At times, work can be performed in an outdoor environment and possible exposure to inclement weather or various temperature changes.
- There could be exposure to dangerous or aggressive/adverse populations.
LOCATION:
- La Porte Library Branch
HOURS:
- Full-Time /40 Hours per Week
- Typical shifts are Day, Evening, Nights, Weekends, etc.
SALARY:
- $20.96 Hourly
- Paid Biweekly
- Based On 26 Pay Periods
