Billing Specialist (Health Access Program)

The HAAT (Health Access Assistance Team) Program of Fairfax County offers one-stop shopping for uninsured, low-income Fairfax County residents seeking health care. The Billing Specialist performs the highly confidential responsibilities of processing provider invoices and performing data entry for the related program. This is a time-limited benefited position funded through June 30, 2021. All NVFS employees are expected to demonstrate the organizational values and sensitivity to the diversity of the organization’s client base.

Essential Job Duties:
  • Follow a clear data collection system that meets the contract performance measures and financial measures.
  • Process provider/vendor invoices accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Process and review provider invoices to ensure correct accounting code is applied; invoices recorded in appropriate data systems; and copies and documentation maintained.
  • Use state database to accurately reflect billing rates for Medicaid
  • Reconcile direct assistance payments with trial balances.
  • Serve as liaison with vendors regarding bill payments.
  • Communicate with county partners to facilitate information related to vendor contracts and documents required to make payments
  • Ensure timeliness and accuracy of invoicing and payments.
  • Participate in regular supervision with Supervisor by providing regular updates.
  • Maintain department and client files in accordance with department/licensing requirements and NVFS guidelines.
  • Maintain current level of knowledge on finance software and accounting procedures.

  • Must have one of the following:
  • Associate’s degree with a concentration in Business Administration or related field; OR
  • At least four (4) years of related work experience
  • At least one (1) year of experience preferred in medical billing/invoice processing and database management
  • Mathematic operations proficiency required
  • Oral and written fluency in English required
  • Demonstrated proficiency with database and basic accounting software required
  • Successful completion of background checks required upon hire
