Community Level Child Protection Intern

Plan International USA is the co-chair of the Community Level Child Protection Task Force (CCP TF), which was formed in 2013 under the Alliance for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action. The purpose of the Community Level Child Protection Task Force (CCP TF) is to strengthen the evidence base for CCP programming, documenting innovative and promising practice, and developing guidance and capacity building resources based on learning. There are approximately 30 member agencies of the CCP TF include UN agencies, International and Local NGO’s.
In 2019, Plan International on behalf the Alliance, received a two-year award from USAID/ OFDA to conduct research and document promising practices when engaging community members in case management and/or formal child protection systems. The aim of the inter-agency initiative is to provide a better understanding of community volunteers, who have responsibilities within the case management process. This will include looking at volunteers’ experiences, roles, and motivations; as well as good practices, challenges, risks and benefits of working with volunteers.

Plan USA is seeking an intern to support the Task Force with this project and other related tasks from a home-base. The Community Level Child Protection Intern will provide support to the Technical Lead and DRM Manager- Protection Specialist with the Community Engagement in Case Management Project and Community Level Child Protection Task Force.

This is a part-time paid summer internship from June – September 2020.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Support with the research tasks of the Community Engagement in Case Management project (this may include transcription and/or compiling grey literature)
  • Assist with a mapping exercise of the community volunteer workforce; drawing from grey literature and Key Informant Interviews  
  • Assist with the organizing of the Field Narratives including:
  • Disseminating the instructions to identified CP agencies in different countries
  • Collecting narratives, and ensuring that they are translated
  • Organizing the panel review of field narrative submissions
  • Supporting the publication of field narratives on social media
  • Monitor the global CCP Task Force email account and manage information and documents related to the Task Force
  • Respond to requests and ensure child protection practitioners’ access to case management guidance and resources
  • Document and circulate meeting minutes for the global CCP TF monthly calls
  • Other tasks as relevant

Education and Experience

  • Recently completed or in-progress of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Communications, International Development, or related field
  • Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines; Excellent communication, writing, editing, and research skills
  • Attention to detail and think creatively
  • A demonstrated commitment to Plan International’s mission
  • Flexible and calm work attitude: the ability to respond rapidly to changing environments, yet remain productive and focused.
  • Demonstrated Computer skills: ability to work effectively and accurately with MS Outlook, Word, Excel, email and Internet applications
  • English fluency required, proficiency in French, Spanish or Arabic is highly desirable
