Wildland Urban Interface Specialist I

Assigned to mitigation and prevention programs that include Community Protection Plans, Firewise Communities, completing WUI Risk Assessments and fuel management/reduction issues. Coordinate with municipal, county and federal agencies relating to WUI programs and provide proactive wildfire educational technical assistance to community based wildfire prevention programs. Encourage cities, counties and fire departments to participate in proactive prevention and mitigation programs and to adopt a CWPP or achieve recognized Firewise USA community status. Ensures mitigation and prevention programs are completed in a cost effective manner and within budget. Completes all administrative tasks in accordance to applicable laws, rules, procedures and guidelines. Ensures that programs are tracked with the completion of timely reports. Deliver programs to volunteer and career fire departments regarding firefighter safety, tactics apparatus and PPE in WUI environment. During large scale wildfire outbreaks and all hazards incidents will be engaged in public information, mitigation, prevention and fire suppression or emergency response efforts. WIll work within the NIMS/ICS environment.
