Analyst/Associate – Dispute, Compliance & Investigations

General Purpose:  An Analyst/Associate within our Dispute, Compliance and Investigations practice will have assignments across a variety of industries and receive client exposure early in his or her career.  Assignments primarily consist of assisting with the completion of various types of restructuring assignments and disputes litigation.  These consist of preparing three statement financial models, preparing and analyzing forecasts of cash collection and disbursement, financial statement analysis, enterprise and asset valuation, loan and collateral analysis, forensic investigations, and creditor claims analysis.  Analysts/Associates may also assist with litigation matters involving solvency analysis, economic damages calculations and/or related financial analyses as well as fraud and forensic matters including but not limited to, transactional/M&A disputes, intellectual property disputes, valuation and commercial damages (e.g., breach of contract, and theft of trade secrets).   Analysts/Associate are assigned to project teams, working under the direction of engagement leaders.  Clients may be based locally, regionally, or nationally.  Periodic travel may be required to meet project requirements.  The selected candidate may also assist senior Stout practitioners with business development and marketing activities including the development of presentations, articles, pitchbooks and proposals, and the performance of research supporting such projects.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform financial statement analysis and forecasting
  • Review, organization and analysis of client financial records and operating reports
  • Conduct thorough company, industry, and case-specific research and effective preparation of findings
  • Review, organization, and analysis of case documentation, testimony, and court filings
  • Preparation of presentations, reports, analyses and summaries of research for clients and management
  • Participation in marketing and thought leadership efforts

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Solid ability to critically analyze financial statements, accounting records, tax returns, and other financial documents and identify relevant information within unorganized data sets
  • Solid understanding of financial forecasting and statement analysis and operational metrics
  • Proficient in using spreadsheets, database software, and other tools to build detailed, complex financial models to project future performance, project cash collections and disbursements, trace actual transactions and/or create flexible and robust scenario analyses
  • Ability to develop and critique alternative arguments/opinions
  • Must have a strong ability to independently manage and fulfill multiple work streams, and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to succinctly express oneself in business communications; both written and verbally
  • Aptitude and flexibility to work within changing and complex engagements
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access), and various online research tools

Education and/or Training:
  • Minimum of 2-6 years of relevant professional experience in finance, accounting or general consulting industry. Restructuring, valuation, litigation consulting, forensic accounting, fraud investigation, professional/public accounting, and/or assurance/audit experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field
  • CPA, CIRA / CDBV, CFA, or CFE designation preferable (or CPA/CFA/CFE - track)
  • Willingness to travel and work overtime as needed
