Food Policy Center Research Intern - Fall 2020

The Hudson Institute Food Policy Internship offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative policy solutions designed to transform the way public health advocates and corporations resolve tough health and nutrition issues. Interns will work with the Center's director on policy proposals, position papers, and analyses. Interns will have the opportunity to meet with experts in the food industry, public health community and non-profit organizations, and will play an integral role in preparing for the public unveiling of the Center's research findings and reports. Onsite interns can also attend weekly events featuring experts from Hudson Institute and across Washington, DC.
Responsibilities may include:
  • Examining regulatory policies to determine their effectiveness in addressing food-related issues;
  • Researching food industry products and marketing practices and identifying links to obesity;
  • Data compilation and analysis of patterns and trends;
  • Keeping the scholar up to date on current events in the field;
  • Assisting staff with presentations, articles, op-eds, reports, and briefing papers;
  • Ensuring and updating the effectiveness of the Center's web site and social media communications;
  • Assisting with administrative tasks, event planning, and execution.
Qualifications
Applicants should:
  • Be current students working toward, or recent graduates holding, a degree in business, economics, or related fields, with knowledge of or interest in food-related nutrition and health issues;
  • Be self-starters with a strong interest in contributing to the solution of one of the world's biggest public health issues;
  • Be able to work autonomously and as part of a team, manage time wisely, and meet deadlines;
  • Demonstrate professionalism and reliability;
  • Possess excellent writing, communications, and interpersonal skills;
  • Be proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), and be adept at using social media tools (such as LinkedIn) and statistical programs such as R or STATA.
