The South Dakota Human Services Center (HSC), Yankton, is seeking a Director of Social Services. HSC is a 277-bed inpatient psychiatric and chemical dependency hospital serving acute, psychiatric rehabilitation, geriatric, and adolescent patients. 
Responsibilities include monitoring and evaluating quality assurance and standards and practices of social services, oversight of discharge and treatment planning efforts, liaison with community mental health centers and other agencies and develops and conducts therapeutic treatment. 
This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act. 
Licenses and Certifications: 
Successful applicant must be eligible to be certified as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) per SDCL 27A-1-3. 
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Successful candidate must possess a master's degree in social work. 
Knowledge of:
  • multidisciplinary approach to treatment;
  • evidence-based practice guidelines;
  • behavioral healthcare, including mental health and substance abuse services;
  • federal and state requirements pertaining to social services;
  • psychosocial assessments and treatment techniques;
  • ethical standards, principles, and practices of social work, counseling, and human behavior;
  • current social, economic, and health trends and services;
  • quality assurance and outcome measurements;
  • community resources.
Ability to:
  • communicate effectively with a wide variety of people;
  • develop effective therapy curriculum;
  • be highly organized and self-motivated;
  • work independently as well as collaboratively;
  • review and critique psychosocial assessments, treatment, and discharge plans for the purpose of quality assurance;
  • create policy and procedure.
