Spaceflight Engineering Study Lead

The Jacobs Space Exploration Group (JSEG) is seeking a Spaceflight Engineering Study Lead to support the Advanced Concepts Office (ACO) at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC).

ACO specializes in concept definition studies for space exploration elements. The Office consists of multi-discipline design teams that provide fully-integrated assessments of spaceflight missions and vehicle elements.

The Spaceflight Engineering Study Lead is primarily responsible for:

  • The creation, development, and maturation of alternate and innovative concept studies for subsystems, spacecraft systems, payloads, and space launch transportation systems.

  • Serves as a Study Lead, expert authority, directing, and conducting a broad range of inter-disciplinary studies including the determination and analysis of mass properties and mass distributions of major components, subsystems, and systems.

  • Conducts aerospace mission analyses and configuration studies and originates new design/evaluation tools to assess mission feasibility and configuration optimization using analytical and/or experimental data.

  • Plans and conducts fundamental studies on new techniques and methods of analysis for the performance of aerospace vehicles and subsystems. Projects affect the work of other experts and the development of major parts of projects.

  • Defines unknown conditions, resolves critical design problems, or develops new design theories. Determines when major studies should be stopped or major alterations made due to changes in programs.

  • Publishes technical data and develops scientifically based standards for engineering application. Serves as liaison between research, design, and operations.
