Junior Geotechnical Engineer

Hatch, a full-service Water Power consultancy, is currently seeking a Graduate Geotechnical Engineer to join the Water Power team in our Amherst, New York office.
 
Candidate will be given the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects providing the ability to explore interests, while developing the skills necessary to become a successful engineer. The ideal candidate must be highly motivated, team oriented and dependable.
 
Professional Qualifications/Experience: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural engineering from an accredited University.
  • Experience with AutoCAD/Civil 3D, MicroStation, ArcGIS or other engineering related software is a plus.
  • Spanish speaking, a plus
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to function with minimal supervision.
  • Sound understanding of design engineering codes and technical standards.
  • Must have the ability to walk on dam faces, climb ladders, enter outlet pipes, and conduct other similar physical activities.
  • Good safety awareness.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Perform conceptual and detailed engineering design
  • Prepare engineering calculations
  • Prepare technical specifications
  • Prepare data sheets
  • Prepare and contribute to technical memos and reports
  • Provide input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates
  • Prepare and/or review project procedures, standard specifications and design criteria
  • Participate in and contribute to design reviews
  • Carry out assigned tasks within budget and schedule
  • Assist in defining project scope
