Chevron

Upstream Facilities Engineer Intern

May - August 2017 • Houston, TX

What I liked

The very open, friendly culture of the company as well as the value that it places on safe work practices. I was able to network extensively across different functions and to travel to the field sites I was assigned to, therefore having the opportunity to work with operators and contractors. I independently led a valuable Lean Sigma project among others, which resulted in tangible cost savings and meaningful deliverables. Houston is also an amazing city to intern in!!

What I wish was different

The recruitment process is very internalized-- I wish Hopkins informed and provided more grants for students to attend conferences with valuable career fairs.

Advice

Use your time wisely-- focus on project delivery before everything else, and after that's prioritized then network! This is the only time when you'll have direct access to hiring managers and leaders in their fields-- all you have to do is be confident and shoot them an email. In my time there, no one (no matter their position) turned down a 30 minute coffee chat.
